Chickies Rock County Park

A hidden gem in the midst of bustling downtown Columbia, Chickies Rock County Park is a must-see for any nature lover. The county commissioners began acquiring this park property over 40 years ago. And have been working hard ever since to maintain its regal beauty. With lush greens throughout most areas, as well as inviting scenic views from some parts that overlooks the lake.

Chickies Rock County Park has been a place of refuge for many American Indians. Also, the park’s name comes from the word “Chiquesalunga”. Which means, “place of crayfish.” With its varied features, Chickies provides an interesting destination that anyone would enjoy! To get a good view of the surrounding area, head to Chickies Rock! This 100-foot quartzite outcropping is one the most scenic spots in this park. You’ll enjoy stunning views that include Marietta and the farmlands from all directions. This park is more than just a great place for children and families to play. The area once boasted several iron furnaces, rolling mills, canal walls as well. Remnants of these historical treasures are still visible, so visitors can enjoy them too today!
