Natural, Emotional & Timeless. That’s what draws couples to me to photograph their love stories and wedding days, at home in Portugal and beyond it. Editorial in feel, effortless in the making, striking images that never ask you to stop being yourselves. My photography lives in real interaction and what happens between the planned moments, a hand being held, a look that lasts a lifetime. Elegant and honest to still feel twenty years from now. Though recognition was never the point, that approach made me a finalist at the Hasselblad Masters Wedding Awards and has been featured several times in the international magazine Shuttermag. What actually happens on the day is the goal.

A wedding brings everything into one day. Love, family, nerves, silence, laughter, tears. I immerse myself in all of it, from the first quiet preparations to the last of the party, and I feel each stage as it comes. That’s the part I couldn’t imagine doing any other way.

I’m Humberto, based in the north of Portugal, close to Porto, the Douro Valley and Aveiro. I photograph across the country and abroad, where distance has never defined the work. Connection does. Most of the couples I photograph plan their day from another country, so we talk long before we meet. Calls, messages, small details shared, so by the time we stand in the same room, it feels familiar and easy.

Most couples tell me the same thing: they feel awkward in front of a camera. That’s normal, and I never try to talk them out of it. I won’t turn you into someone you don’t be in order to get a photograph. I create the space to simply be together, guide with an editorial eye when a moment calls for it, and wait for the rest to happen on its own. It always does.

What matters to me is not only how the day looked. It’s how it felt to live it, and giving that back to the two people at the center of it, so they feel it again every time they look.
