Crane Co

* I’ve been a professional wedding photographer since 2012 and before that, studied photojournalism. I wanted to work for the Associated Press. Weddings are better.
* I could eat tacos every day for the rest of my life and never get tired of them.
* I worked as a Private Investigator during my off season for a few years.
* I started my career shooting film and I still shoot film. Film is getting more expensive but I will always take the opportunity to create art and s l o w d o w n.
* I am a girl mom, a cat mom and a plant killer.
* People describe my work as whimsical and romantic and that’s my most cherished accomplishment (other than my kid, of course).

FAQs
What inspired you to become a wedding photographer?
My family is full of photographers. My uncle was the newspaper’s photo editor, my aunt photographed weddings and my mother was a portrait photographer. I literally grew up around professional photographers so going to college for photography was a no-brainer. Originally, I wanted to change the world through photojournalism but I realized quickly how important and necessary good documentary wedding photography is. Years later, I still love this job and wouldn’t do anything else.
How would you describe your photography style?
Instead of approaching a wedding day with a rigid, preconceived shot list in my head, I like to feel the vibe of the day and go with the emotion of the moment. I trained as a photojournalist and I want to document the heart and soul of a wedding day as it unfolds. I understand we’ll need to take some posed “frame and put over the couch” photos, but 89% of my approach is candid and fully in touch with the flow of the day.
How do you ensure that your clients feel comfortable and relaxed during the photo shoot?
I have a laid-back, friendly personality that puts people at ease. The highest compliment I get is when couples comment how *fun* creating photos with me can be. Most of my couples aren’t professional models so I understand the need for prompts, some adjustments and direction as we go, but making my couples feel relaxed and confident goes a long way in creating amazing images.
How do you ensure that you capture all of the important moments on the wedding day?
I have multiple calls and meetings with my couples to make sure I get a timeline of their day and a list of desired photographs. But mostly, after photographing weddings for 10+ years, the flow of the day comes naturally to me. I love the dance of the wedding day, the flow from one important milestone to the next. Being fully immersed and fully present keeps me in the moment so nothing is missed.
What is your favorite part of the wedding day and why?
My favorite part of the wedding day is undoubtedly the reception. The drama and stress of the day is over and my couples can just relax and PARTY with the people they love. I’m a huge fan of couples who create an amazing guest experience and getting a chance to document that is always a blast!
