A photographer of 16 years, Lucy combines her full award cabinet and passion for epic locations, resulting in a seamless elopement experience for couples who want to unsubscribe from the expectations of traditional weddings.

Like planning a honeymoon and getting married on the day that sounds the most exciting. I’ve been all over New Zealand and live here full time, so I’ve got the local knowledge, hidden gems, and tips to maximize your trip.

What inspired you to become a wedding photographer?
Wedding photography chose me! I was homeschooled (in a groovy, alternative way) which allowed me to focus on photography from an early age. Before I knew it, I was photographing portraits and families and then my first wedding when I was just 16. I loved weddings, but my passion really bloomed when I discovered the magic of ELOPING. Suddenly I was connecting with couples who love the same things as I do: wild mountains, great hikes, privacy, lake views, lush forests and epic waterfalls. Photographing elopements feels like a dream job, with the same activities as I enjoy on my days off.
How would you describe your photography style?
True to life color. True to life moments. Your photos will tell the story of where, how, and what you did on your elopement day, so you’ll be transported back to everything you were feeling each time you look back on them. I focus on what makes you two weirdly and wildly perfect for each other. I love the unplanned moments of elopements: a bug trapped in a veil, a mud soaked shoe, the feeling of waterfall spray hitting your face – just as much as that crisp money shot you’ll hang in your home. I’ll guide you into the perfect locations so you can be photographed in your natural habitat.. and if you need help knowing what to do with your hands, I’ve got you.
How do you ensure that your clients feel comfortable and relaxed during the photo shoot?
I have no “professional” polish whatsoever – I’m just me. Honestly, I’ll likely trip over myself before we even get started, so you’ll never be the dorkiest person on the trail. My hair will be a mess, there will be cat hair on my shorts and muddy boots on my feet. You can relax and be yourselves because I’ll never expect you to act like anyone you’re not. To me, getting your photo taken is about as unserious as getting an ice cream. You don’t have to *be* or *do* anything that doesn’t feel like you.
How do you ensure that you capture all of the important moments on the wedding day?
I’m confident in my boatloads of experience which allows me to anticipate moments before they happen. I’m overprepared and ready for anything, whether that means a pivot to plan B, C or D due to weather or rigging a dress into a backpack for easy hiking. I’m insured & carry the entire gamut of backup equipment and am an experienced international traveler.
What is your favorite part of the wedding day and why?
My favorite part of any elopement is a tush-grab. Anyone, either partner, at any time, it doesn’t matter, I LOVE IT. The affection and mischief of it just tickles me.
