Woodend Sanctuary & Mansion
The Historic Woodend Sanctuary & Mansion boasts a charming grove for outdoor ceremonies, accommodating 170 guests from April to November and 120 guests from December to March. The mansion and adjacent tented terrace are also available for use. The climate-controlled tented terrace and Great Hall serve as excellent alternatives for ceremonies.
A portion of the rental fee is considered a tax-deductible donation to the Audubon Naturalist Society, with no sales tax applied. Designed in 1927 by John Russell Pope for the Wells family, Woodend was later donated to the Audubon Naturalist Society in 1969. Situated just 9 miles from Washington D.C., the secluded property is conveniently close to the city and major airports.
Woodend’s beautiful grove is perfect for outdoor ceremonies, with the climate-controlled tent serving as a backup plan in case of inclement weather. The rental fee includes both the ceremony areas and the tent, which comes fully equipped with chandeliers, liners, side panels, fans, heaters, and air conditioning from June to September.
Guests can bring their own alcohol without incurring corkage fees, and the caterer provides a licensed bartender, eliminating the need for a liquor license. The venue features two spacious staging areas for wedding parties and ample on-site parking. Woodend is located on a private 40-acre nature sanctuary, offering a serene atmosphere just 9 miles from downtown D.C.
