Sacramento River

The Sacramento River is California’s largest river, and one of the state’s most important water sources. It provides 31% of all surface runoff in inland areas. Which means that it feeds into smaller rivers that flow out to sea. Once called “the Nile of the West,” the river drains inland slopes of Klamath Mountains, Cascades Range Coast Ranges and Northern Sierra Nevada. Amazingly, it helps support the valley’s 2 million acres of irrigated agriculture. On a lighter note, you can also launch a boat and explore this waterway. Passing under the Tower Bridge and the century-old I Street Bridge along Old Sacramento.
