Sarah Peterson Photography

Hi! I’m Sarah. I got my start in photography over a decade ago in Los Angeles, CA where I worked as a commercial photographer for modeling agencies, reality tv, and commercial swimwear. You may have seen my work featured on ABC’s The Bachelor, or by Sports Illustrated! As a Bay Area native, my love for SF brought me back up north in 2018. Since then I’ve been building my wedding and elopement business, and loving it more and more every year. I’ve been lucky enough to add 8 talented Associate Photographers to my team from all over the CA coast, and we’re so excited to be able to take on even more events in the years to come!

FAQs

What inspired you to become a wedding photographer?

I love the candid moments that come with wedding photography. The speeches that leave no one with a dry eye, or the incredible dance moves that come out after one-too-many. No wedding is ever the same which makes it so fun and exciting to be able to capture the story unique to each couple. Doing weddings also became natural with the time period my own life was in. Lot’s of my closest friends and family were getting engaged and constantly asking me to be a part of their days, so it became a natural progression that I just so happened to fall in love with. Now, I couldn’t see myself doing anything else!

How would you describe your photography style?

Photojournalism meets editorial. Having been trained in a very commercial setting while starting out, my style tends to lean more towards the editorial side. My own love for details is what made me exceptional at the storytelling needed to round out a gallery and make sure my couples felt like every moment of the day was captured. Even the ones they didn’t realize were happening in real time; like Mom’s reaction to their vows or Grandma’s laughter during speeches!

How do you ensure that your clients feel comfortable and relaxed during the photo shoot?

I went into photography with the goal of making everyone feel as comfortable as possible in front of my camera. Fun fact about me: I hate being in front of a camera! Since this is the case, I’ve created so many fun and candid poses by using prompts to direct you in the most natural way possible. You’ll never feel left to your own devices and you might even have some fun and forget you’re in front of a camera.

How do you ensure that you capture all of the important moments on the wedding day?

Before ever shooting my first wedding I had already become accustomed to creating images in a fast paced setting due to starting out in the commercial realm of photography. This made entering the wedding industry a breeze! As a highly detail oriented individual, the tiny details of the day are also some of my favorite to shoot, which is why I fell in love with the wedding industry. It fit my style perfectly and I loved getting to tell the story beginning to end on someones most important day. As my business grew I was able to add in associates who were also exceptional at storytelling photography. Having two of us at each wedding is how I ensure no detail of the day goes unseen.

What is your favorite part of the wedding day and why?

I feel like my editorial background and style really gets to shine through in bridal and couple portraits of just the two of you. It’s always my goal to create timeless images that can hang on your walls for a lifetime, while still capturing the fun and excitement that comes with the day!
