TKM Photography

Hey! We’re Kat & Tay of TKM Photography!

We are two passionate wedding and portrait photographers who split our time between serving Durham Region, Ontario, and Roatan, Honduras (and beyond) with over 8 years of experience.

Our photography keeps your memories alive, preserving it for friends, family, and future generations. Using a documentary-style approach, we focus on your unstaged moments, turning your life into art.

We LOVE taking photos, and specifically of people in love.

Love isn’t this cold, weird, awkward thing. It’s a dynamic, exciting, evolving, and beautiful thing!!! So why should your photography session be weird, cold, and awkward? We want to capture the awesome bits that make your story YOUR story!!

Whether we are photographing your wedding or a portrait session, we don’t just show up, take your photos, and leave. We are SUPER passionate about making you comfortable and a big part of that is education. Our guides, questionnaires, and availability to chat will have you feeling confident about your session and your printed products after!

We’ve always been creative and fell in love with photography as more of a hobby (if you haven’t checked out Tay’s astro photography – you definitely need to!)

But what really stole our hearts was taking pictures of people in love. In love on their wedding days. In love with their families. Even in love with the brands they are building.

So, in 2016, we made the dive into turning this into a business. And if there’s one thing that our friends and family say about us is that we do not do anything small.

We dove into making sure that we had both the technical side of taking pictures down to a fine art and can also provide the absolute best customer experience in the industry. We’ve worked with some of the top mentors in the business, like Erika and Lanny Mann and Dave Moss.

Our biggest goal is to never say “good enough” – whether that’s how we help you before your big day, how we make sure your photos are literally picture perfect or who we work with to give you incredible prints to hang on your walls with pride.

FAQs

What inspired you to become a wedding photographer?

Kat: Photography has always been a hobby, but people have always been my passion. I am an extrovert in the truest sense and love making meaningful connections with the people around me and seeing them interact with each other. Once I started taking photos of people, especially people in love, it was a done deal for me. I knew that I had found my dream job and haven’t looked back since.

Taylor: I learned a long time ago to just hold on tight wherever Kat goes and enjoy the ride.

Kat: Plus you’re an amazing photographer! He’s incredible. And he’s incredible with people. I’ve never met a single person who didn’t instantly feel at ease with Tay. I’m definitely biased, but he’s one of the best people you will ever know.

How would you describe your photography style?

We love true-to-life colours, true-to-life moments, and capturing all the true-to-life emotion that we are blessed to witness. We follow a documentary-style approach that allows us to do that. We love the couples and families we get to work with and often joke that we aren’t photographers, we’re their friends with cameras. This connection helps people to feel at ease in front of our camera, which allows us to capture them in their truest, most beautiful form.

How do you ensure that your clients feel comfortable and relaxed during the photo shoot?

This is our number one priority always. We always like to get to know our couples a bit before they step in front of our cameras so that we aren’t strangers to them. When you’re with a friend, you automatically can let your guard down more. In addition to that, all our couples and families fill out a questionnaire prior to their session or wedding day so we can get to know them better, and we provide an extensive prep guide to help them get to know us better and what to expect. Knowledge is power and definitely leads to confidence in front of our cameras.

We also aren’t super pose-y, and 99% of the time we don’t want our clients to pose. We will lightly direct the session, but we find that when you are just enjoying yourself with the people you love most, you’re more likely to be at ease and relaxed. It’s our job to take that love and connection and turn it into art, and we love doing it.

How do you ensure that you capture all of the important moments on the wedding day?

We are always a package deal. Having a second photographer is key to capturing as much of your day as possible. You can’t be in two places at once, but we can! So we love to capture the moments, laughs, tears, and hugs of not just you, but your closest loved ones too. Our favourite thing is when our couples get their photos and they are like “What was happening in this photo?!” or “What were they doing here?!” and then call that family member or friend and get to hear a story that likely would have been forgotten otherwise. We want to colour not only your memories but help you see your wedding through the eyes of the people you love most as well.

What is your favorite part of the wedding day and why?

Dancefloor. Hands down. We love the energy of the party when everyone has done all the wedding things they “have” to do and can just exhale and enjoy their newly married bliss with the people they care most about. Plus it’s just SO FUN!
