Pfeiffer Beach

Pfeiffer Beach is a hidden gem in the Big Sur area. The area is off of the beaten path, but well worth your time. Just south of Big Sur Station on Highway 1, there’s an unsigned Sycamore Canyon Road. Which winds its way down and gives access to some stunning views as it comes near the beach. Your journey down to the beach is a short one, with plenty of scenic views along the way. You’ll experience both sides: when you reach your destination, there will be either an ocean in front or lagoon water behind it!

The focal point on your walk to the shore is a massive rock (actually two rocks), with one having an arch known as Keyhole Arch. This arch is a natural wonder, letting waves pass through it and even the last rays of daylight. In addition, the cove on the left side of the area is partially protected by rocks at the Pfeiffer Point. It’s a place that can be challenging to explore, but definitely offers some great opportunities for photography.
