Carlos Azevedo Photography

I’m Carlos, a documentary wedding photographer that focus in capturing authenic and genuine moments on a wedding day with a subtle editorial touch for laid-back couples. My approach is natural and unobtrusive—I document the day as it unfolds, preserving genuine emotions and unscripted joy without interrupting the celebration.

On wedding days, I become like another guest, moving through the crowd to capture all the smiles, embraces, and heartfelt moments that make each celebration unique. I won’t be that photographer standing at a distance with an imposing zoom lens—I’m right there in the moment, yet discreete.

What sets my style apart is my commitment to authenticity. I seek out those fleeting, easily missed interactions that tell the true story of the day. Every laugh, tear, and spontaneous dance move becomes part of the visual narrative.
I believe the photography experience should be stress-free. My relaxed approach helps couples feel comfortable in front of my camera, allowing their genuine personalities to shine through.

If you’re looking for wedding photography that beautifully preserves your day’s special moments in a natural, unforced way, I’d love to hear from you. Contact me today to discuss how I can tell your unique love story.

FAQs

What inspired you to become a wedding photographer?

My journey into wedding photography began somewhat unexpectedly when I had the opportunity to photograph a friend’s wedding. The experience of documenting such an important day—capturing moments that would become cherished memories—resonated with me deeply. But what truly cemented my passion for photography was becoming a father. When my children were born, I developed a profound appreciation for the value of preserving life’s fleeting moments. Watching them grow so quickly made me understand how precious memories are and how quickly time slips away.
This personal revelation transformed how I approach wedding photography. I now see each wedding as more than just a beautiful event—it’s the beginning of a family’s history together, filled with moments that deserve to be remembered exactly as they happened.

How would you describe your photography style?

I’d describe my style as documentary with a creative flair, focused on timeless imagery rather than passing trends. About 95% of my coverage is natural and candid, capturing genuine moments as they unfold—from morning preparations and emotional first looks to heartfelt speeches and wild dance floor moments. The remaining 5% involves gentle direction for couple portraits and family groups. I aim for true-to-life colors and authentic emotions that will transport you back to how your day actually felt, even decades later.

How do you ensure that your clients feel comfortable and relaxed during the photo shoot?

As someone who’s camera-shy myself, I completely understand the discomfort many feel in front of a lens. I ensure comfort by blending in like a guest, sharing laughs, and never asking anyone to put on a show. For portraits, I use gentle prompts rather than rigid posing, keeping everything fluid and natural. I focus on capturing the connection between couples in a way that reflects their unique relationship. My approach is deliberately laid-back—I won’t be lurking or pestering, allowing them to simply enjoy their day.

How do you ensure that you capture all of the important moments on the wedding day?

I approach each wedding as a unique story that deserves to be told authentically. By becoming almost invisible, moving through the celebration like another guest, I catch those fleeting, meaningful moments that might otherwise be missed. I’m always watching for the emotional beats of the day—tender glances, spontaneous embraces, joyful celebrations—while also efficiently managing the formal shots. My experience helps me anticipate key moments before they happen, ensuring nothing important is missed.

What is your favorite part of the wedding day and why?

I have two favorite parts of every wedding day. First, those brief 20 minutes I spend with the couple creating their portraits. It’s often the first moment they have alone as a married couple—a chance to breathe, soak in the reality of being newly wed, and simply be together without the whirlwind of the day.
My other favorite is definitely the reception—this is where I truly thrive as a documentary photographer. Once everyone relaxes and the celebration kicks into full gear, I can capture those perfectly candid moments that tell the real story of the day.
