Paint Mines Interpretive Park

What a unique experience! The Paint Mines Interpretive Park is one of El Paso County’s most interesting open spaces. You can learn all about the colorful history with these mines from American Indians who collected their clay to make paint. In fact, a range of colors are visible in the clay, but one thing that stands out is their bright hue. The bands caused by oxidized iron compounds give them an extra burst and make them stand out from others even more so than before!

The Paint Mines Interpretive Park is a 750 acre park that sits in the northeast section of the county near Calhan. There are evidence to suggest that humans have dwelled here since 9,000 years ago! On one hand, if you want to have a historically educational and fun engagement photo session, then Pain Mines is for you! Get ready to indulge in the natural beauty of the mountains and enjoy the ultimate experience that it has in store for every visitor.
