Houston’s Best Engagement Photography Locations

Houston is the largest city in Texas and the sixth largest city in the US in terms of population.  The diverse population and rich history make it a unique, beautiful place to live or visit.  In terms of engagement photography locations, Houston presents a diverse array of options, from city urban centers to gorgeous green parks.  You can even travel outside of the city to Gulf of Mexico beaches at Galveston Bay or explore one of Houston’s historical sites or museums.  Below are some of our favorites.

1940 Air Terminal Museum

The 1940 Air Terminal Museum is a beautiful, historic location for your engagement session. The original art deco building houses art collections, but with a permit you can also use the location for professional photography. The building served as the first purpose-built terminal for passenger flight in Houston , and it currently displays items and information regarding Houston’s civil aviation history.

Brazos Bend State Park

Located in Needville, Tx, the Brazos Bend State Park is a massive, 4,897-acre state park on the Brazos River. Famous for its wetlands that house native wildlife, including alligators, the park is also a great place for engagement and portrait photography.

Buffalo Bayou Park

Located west of downtown Houston, Buffalo Bayou Park is a large public park with idyllic gardens and native landscaping. The park also has trails for hiking and biking, rentals for paddle boats and bikes, dog parks, public art and much more. This is a great place to relax on a weekend or take some of your engagement photos.

Discovery Green

Discovery Green is a public urban park in Downtown Houston with a lake, bandstands and venues for public performances, and much more. If you’re looking for a unique, open, yet urban location for your engagement photos, this is a great option.

Cy-Hope – Cypress

Cy-Hope has two venues, the Cypress Alamo and Hope Lodge available for weddings and portrait sessions. The Cypress Alamo’s facade is an exact replica of the facade of the Alamo in San Antonio, which gives your photos a historic charm.

Fernland Historical Park

Fernland Historical park boasts the Texas architecture, such as log homes and cabins. These are some of the oldest remaining structures within Texas. If you’re looking for the historic Texas charm, this is an engagement photography location to consider.

Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park

The Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park has an impressive, beautiful semi-circular fountain. The fountain re-circulates 11,000 gallons of water per minute, creating a grand, unique backdrop for your photos. The park also has a beautiful surrounding area with live oak trees, providing plenty of gorgeous natural light for your engagement photos.

Helen’s Parks

Helen’s park is a beautiful garden that is “off the map” and difficult to find, even though it’s located between the YMCA and McGovern Library. The engagement photography location gives you plenty of backdrops, including a brook, well-maintained flowers, tall trees, a gorgeous fountain, and large trellis-covered walkways.

This wonderful gem is ideal for engagement photos, family photos, or portrait sessions.

Burroughs Park

Burroughs Park features green landscape, fishing lakes, nature trails, and beautiful views. Located northeast of Tomball, Texas, this 320 acre park is a wonderful location for engagement photography.

Hermann Park

Right in the center of Houston, is the sprawling Hermann Park. Keep in mind that it can get busy, as the park has an estimated six million visitors each year.

Named one of America’s great public spaces by the American Planning Association, Hermann Park brings the community together and is a great way to spend a day with the family. It’s also an ideal location for engagement photography!

Houston Arboretum and Nature Center

The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center has over five miles of nature trails for you to enjoy on your day off or for your engagement photo session. The trails give you the opportunity to utilize the beautiful forest, pond, wetland, and meadow.

McGovern Centennial Garden

The McGovern Centennial Gardens have themed garden rooms that line up along a central lawn. The garden boasts 490 new trees of over 50 species, 760 hedge shrubs, 55,000 perennial bulbs, 650 azaleas and 4.5 acres of grass.
